Dealing with COVID-19 in New Mexico

COVID-19 has turned our entire world upside down, and we’ve all had to make adjustments to deal with the way it’s changed things. From mask mandates to a new way of doing business, everyone’s doing the best they can, and that includes the attorneys who are here to protect your rights, whether civil or criminal. Let’s look at the way we’re all dealing with COVID-19 laws, mandates and responsibilities here in New Mexico and find out what you can do if you need legal representation.

Latest Legal Changes

The Governor recently announced new guidance for small groups this fall. Youth sports conditioning and practice is allowed as long as groups consist of 10 or fewer individuals, but contact and competitive play are still not permitted. Overnight camping at state parks is also now permitted with the same restrictions on group sizes.

In addition, some facilities are permitted to re-open with restrictions in place, including pumpkin patches, ice-skating rinks and swimming pools.

Ongoing Cases

In a few states across the country, there are open court cases challenging governors’ rights to affect shutdowns. While such a case hasn’t hit New Mexico yet, federal rulings on these cases could set an important precedent moving forward. Until then, however, know that your New Mexico personal injury and criminal defense attorneys are watching, listening and ready to defend your rights every step of the way.

How Attorneys Are Dealing With the Changes

The state bar in New Mexico is recommending that attorneys use videoconferencing services to conduct as many of their meetings as possible virtually. We are working hard to meet our clients’ needs while still keeping everyone as safe as possible during this trying time. We’re happy to talk over the phone about the changes we’re making and how we can keep you safe and still represent your rights.
